Philosophy:  The Lena-Winslow School District, in an active partnership with parents and community, will promote excellence in a caring environment in which all students learn and grow.  This partnership shall empower all students to develop a strong self-esteem and to become responsible learners and decision-makers. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities- School staff members, parents, and students understand that all members have responsibilities which are necessary to improve student learning.  Each member is determined to meet this goal through the following means:

The School District will. . .

  • Maintain a safe, respectful school environment.
  • Ensure all staff members are fully certified for their subject areas.
  • Provide ongoing meaningful professional development opportunities for staff members.
  • Conduct regular reviews of the academic curriculum and transitional needs between grade levels.
  • Maintain strong connections with parents through progress reports, parent-teacher conferences, Edline, and monthly newsletters.
  • Review ongoing student learning through District and standardized assessments.

 

Parents of the Lena-Winslow School District are committed to providing the support necessary for students to learn and grow.  Parents will. . .

  • Ensure their children are well-rested and well-fed
  • Make sure their children get to school on time, prepared with all needed books and supplies
  • Provide a quiet place for their child to complete assignments and study and read
  • Help their children with homework, but do not do the work for them
  • Make reading a regular part of their family schedule
  • Review any communications from school, praise their children’s efforts, and discuss any areas of concern
  • Maintain strong connections with the School District by attending parent-teacher conferences, Open Houses, and other school events

  • Complete all assignments in a timely manner

  • Talk with their parents about school events and classroom activities
  • Maintain an attitude of respect for themselves, other students and all adults

 

Parental Involvement (Title 1)

                The school annually has a meeting for all Parents/Guardians, which takes place at the Annual Elementary Open House.  At the meeting, the school will discuss parental involvement, and opportunities for Parents/Guardians to get involved in the education of their children. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to attend the meeting and participate in the discussions that occur. Parents/Guardians should use the meeting as an opportunity to ask questions, make suggestions, and learn about all of the opportunities and programming available for Parents/Guardians to be fully involved in the educational process.

                The school and its teachers provide meetings, including parent/teacher conferences, at flexible times to accommodate a variety of parent schedules. Parents/Guardians will be given notice of meeting availability at the beginning of each year, and at least two weeks before conferences or other regularly scheduled meetings, to provide sufficient opportunity to schedule and attend meetings with teachers. Additionally, teachers are available regularly to meet with parents/guardians to discuss the success of their child. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to inquire about available meeting times and to work with teachers. Parents/Guardians will be involved in an organized and timely way when any programs are created, considered, or altered, and will be continually involved in the ongoing development of programming, curriculum, and policy.

                School programs, in addition to the standard educational curriculum, in which Parents/Guardians may wish to become involved in include: PTO, Homework Assistance, and Room Parenting.  If interested please contact Mary Gerbode at 369-3125.

 

 

Le-Win Provides Parents/Guardians Access to:

  • School performance profiles required by Federal law and their child's individual student assessment results, including an interpretation of such results;
  • A description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet;
  • Opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions, share experiences with other Parents/Guardians, and participate as appropriate in decisions relating to the education of their children if such Parents/Guardians so desire; and
  • Timely responses to suggestions.

               

                Everyone is responsible for the success of the students of the school. While the school provides the best education it can, it is critical to the success of students that parents assist us in meeting the goals of education set forth by the state, the federal government and the District.

                In order to better assist in educating the students, we need the help of all parents and guardians. We ask that you help us educate children by monitoring attendance, homework completion, and television watching; by volunteering in your child's classroom; and participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of children and positive use of extracurricular time.

                The school endeavors to do its best to provide all information in the language best understood by parents and guardians.  Parents/Guardians of participating children have a right to appeal the contents of this policy. When this plan is submitted to the State, the district will submit any parent comments that have been registered.
